Setting it up

How do I make PetPaper my wallpaper?

The app offers to do it for you on the Your pet is ready screen — tap Set as wallpaper. You can also set it yourself: open your phone's Settings → Wallpaper, pick PetPaper from the list, and choose Home screen and lock screen.

I set it, but I cannot see my pet on the lock screen

On Samsung phones this is almost always Dynamic Lock Screen. It is a Samsung feature that puts its own pictures on the lock screen, and it takes the lock screen over completely. Turn it off in Settings → Wallpaper and style, then set PetPaper again.

My pet moves on the lock screen but does not react when I touch it

That is expected, and we cannot change it. On the lock screen your pet is visible and keeps moving — it rests, blinks and yawns — but Android's lock screen keeps every touch to itself and never passes it on to a wallpaper. Stroking works on the home screen.

Which phones does PetPaper work on?

Android 8.0 and above. It is built and tested on Samsung Galaxy phones (One UI). It should work on other Android phones, but some makers change how live wallpapers behave, so we cannot promise every model. If yours misbehaves, tell us the model — that is how we find these.

Playing with your pet

What do the touches do?

Tap your petIt turns its head and looks where you touched.
Rub its faceIt nuzzles your finger back.
Leave it aloneIt rests, blinks and yawns on its own.

My wallpaper turned white

That is what happens when the subscription ends — the pet stops being shown. Subscribing again brings the same pet back, as long as it has not been more than 120 days (see the next section). Check Google Play → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions to see the current state.

Making your own pet

What kind of photo works?

The app first draws a front view from your photo — that takes about a minute — and shows it to you before anything is charged. If it does not look like your pet, tap No, let me use another photo and try a different one. That costs nothing.

How long does it take?

About 20 to 40 minutes once you approve the front view. You can close the app while it works; the pet appears when it is ready.

It says my cat is a dog (or the other way round)

The app works out which animal is in the photo, because the movements we build differ between cats and dogs. If it gets it wrong, tap the option to make the animal it found instead, or pick a clearer photo. If it keeps getting it wrong on a good photo, please send us the photo — that is a bug on our side.

My pet does not look like my pet

Every pet is generated, so results vary. The place to catch this is the front view the app shows you before you pay — if that does not look right, do not approve it. If a finished pet came out wrong, write to us with the photo you used and we will look at it.

Paying, cancelling, deleting

How do I cancel?

In the Google Play app, under Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and your wallpaper keeps working until the end of the period you have already paid for. We cannot cancel it for you — Google Play holds the subscription, not us.

How do I get a refund?

Once we have started building your pet, we cannot refund that purchase. The clips are generated and paid for the moment the work starts. This is why the app shows you a front view of your pet and asks you to approve it before you are charged — up to that point nothing costs you anything, and you can try another photo as often as you like.

The subscription is different: cancel it any time in Google Play and it simply stops renewing.

Payments are handled by Google Play, so any refund request goes through Google Play rather than through us — open the Google Play app, find the order in your order history and use Report a problem, or go to Google's refund page. Your statutory consumer rights still apply — see our Terms.

Delete my photo and my pet

Write to hello@petpaper.app from the address you use on Google Play and ask us to delete them. We do it and confirm when it is done.

If you do nothing, they go anyway: when a subscription ends we keep your photo and your pet for 120 days and then delete both permanently. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Battery and data

The wallpaper only draws while your home screen is actually on screen. It stops when the screen is off and when another app is in front of it.

Making a pet needs the internet and downloads the finished pet to your phone once. After that the wallpaper runs entirely on your phone and uses no data.
